Human body requires essential minerals and vitamins and calories, or nutrition for maintaining good health and growth. We need food that contains an ideal mix of all necessary elements. Being dependents - Elders, Babies, and Children need proper attention to fulfill their need for energy, good health and well being.

Thus, understanding nutrition and nutritional value of food and knowing about clean handling and storage food is essential for good caregiving. It is also necessary to understand how to maintain the nutritional value of food while cooking, handling and storing them. As a Caregiver, here are some important points to note:
  1. It is important to have Balanced diet – This includes monitoring meals cycles, quantity and quality of intakes. Unhealthy food and eating habits can lead to both mental and physical issues.
  2. Maintain food nutrients with proper handling –  Significant part of these nutrients are lost during transport, storage, and cooking of food. To maintain nutrition, buy fresh, shorten the storage and follow proper cooking practices.
  3. Store food in appropriate and hygienic manner: Storing food safely is important because incorrect storage of food can result in contamination. Contaminated food can cause food poisoning, children and elders are at a higher risk of this.
Choosing to eat healthy food cooked in a healthy way, is the best health insurance you can get.
